The Family Argument.
“Longevity doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in communities, and it starts with family.” - Dan Buettner (author of Blue Zones)
We hear it constantly: invest in your career, health, and personal growth.
Important, obviously. But if you’re looking for long-term returns, family may be the most powerful investment you can make. From boosting health to increasing earnings, the stats back it up—family is a high-yield asset.
“I am not aware of any other factor in medicine—not diet, not smoking, not exercise, not stress, not genetics, not drugs—that has a greater impact on our health than love and intimacy.” - Dr. Dean Ornish
As a former college and NFL kicker, my family made my success possible.
My parents traveled to every football game I played in since high school. They showed up for me. Someday, I hope to do the same for my kids.
It’s reassuring to know that my children will be there to motivate me, too.
"Social connection is not just a nice-to-have; it’s essential for our nervous system to function optimally." - Andrew Huberman
Research shows men with strong family ties report lower stress, more happiness, and higher resilience. Leaders like Andrew Huberman clearly state the benefits to having familial ties and social connections.
- Less Stress, More Smiles: Fathers report 20% lower stress levels and greater emotional stability. [5]
- Increased Happiness: Men with children consistently report 16% higher life satisfaction than those without. [6]
- Resilience Builder: Men with families report a 30% increase in resilience and life purpose. [7]
Family is the OG wellness hack.
⚽ Lessons from the Sidelines
I recently went to my nephew’s soccer game and watched him miss a goal..
He was crushed, but a thumbs-up and a nod were all it took for him to light up again.
Family doesn’t need grand gestures––just showing up can make all the difference. And yes, he then scored the winning goal (which I will now take full credit for).
“One of the greatest factors in longevity is having a sense of purpose and a strong social network.” - Dr. Peter Attia
Married men live up to 10 years longer on average than single men [8]. Why? Having a family motivates you to take better care of yourself. You’re less likely to booze too hard, more likely to see the doctor, and motivated to be around for the long haul.
- Live Longer: Married men live 10 years longer than single men. [9]
- Healthier Habits: Men with families are 20% more likely to exercise regularly, smoke 50% less, and drink 30% less than single men. [10]
- Better Health Metrics: A recent meta-analysis found that people with strong social and family connections, particularly married individuals, show better cardiovascular health, including lower blood pressure and cholesterol. [11]
“Married men earn more than men who have never been married, even after controlling for work experience, education, and age.” - For Love or Money
It's true! Family life is linked to higher earnings and financial security. Married men with kids often earn 10-40% more than single men. Stability sells, and family life drives purpose.
- Higher Earnings: Married men with children earn up to 40% more than single men without children. [1]
- Wealth Building: Men with families tend to save more, own homes sooner, and accumulate more wealth over time, accumulating wealth 77% faster than single individuals. [2]
- Better Spending Habits: Families with children are 36% more likely to have savings and prioritize long-term financial planning. [3]
Family isn’t just an emotional investment; it’s a financial one. And unlike the stock market, it’s the one investment you won’t lose sleep over. (Except you obviously will lose a lot of sleep chasing after your kids, but that’s beside the point).
“A man travels the world over in search of what he needs, and returns home to find it.” – George A. Moore
